The Other China: Taiwan

Tony Sagami | January 9, 2010

Taiwanese exports jumped by 47% in December, the biggest increase in 15 years, but the most important part of that impressive report was the fact that exports to China jumped by 92% that month. Yup … 92%! Taiwan is the undervalued, backdoor way to participate in the China boom and this week I name 3 hot Taiwan stocks — all traded in the NYSE — and one ETF that will zoom along with the Taiwan economy.

Best wishes,

Tony

Just a reply that Taiwan is an independent country.Taiwan is Taiwan and not China. The Bad Guy party in in now but the people want their independence. The party that is in now is a party of the Go Ming Dow chinese that came from china when they lost the battle in China. The Taiwanese people want nothing to do with China nor do they want China to rule their country. However there are some that are pro China that want a China takeover. This is sad.

Same here…..I got better results from the chicken with
false teeth singing, “Those were the days, my friend….we
never thought it would end”. And then the rooster hopped
her….and that ended that.
See if you can’t do better with the Week End Market in
Bangkok. You might find some values there…especially
with the fried ‘chicken legs’.
ciao,

Ummm…Taiwan is not “the other China.” Also, we have 23 million people here, not 26. The increases in December were not due to some amazing policy or opportunity, but because exports had collapsed. The climb was an anomaly because the base is sooo low. Also, the policy of moving closer to China has simply hollowed out the economy without providing real benefits for the island as a whole, As has happened with the US. Undoubtedly there are firms benefiting, but that is inevitable in any economic arrangement.
